Chemo Kush is a very powerful Indica strain. This strain is believed to have been first bred by Dr. Suzuki at the University of British Columbia during the 1960s or 70s. Chemo Kush is also frequently referred to as "UBC Chemo" or "UBC Chemo Kush" because of its association with the University of British Columbia.
Chemo Kush can be a remarkable strain for helping to relieve the symptoms of pain, depression, stress, insomnia, end of life/palliative care and lack of appetite. The only downside is that it can be challenging to find this strain outside of British Columbia; it is considered to be one of the rarer strains of cannabis. With its powerful relaxing and sedative properties, Chemo Kush is sure to continue to grow in popularity and become easier to acquire in the future.
As its name suggests, this strain was supposedly bred with the hope of easing some of the symptoms associated with chemotherapy, which is known to be an excruciatingly painful type of cancer therapy. The common story is that Dr. Suzuki developed Chemo Kush at the University of British Columbia because he wanted to help people who are suffering with the pain associated with chemotherapy.
Chemo Kush boasts a very high THC level that ranges from 18% to 29%, with most samples testing right around 21%.
Its CBD levels are very low ranging from 0.1% to 0.5%, with average samples testing around 0.1%.
With THC levels as high as they are in this Indica strain, it is no wonder that many users report a full body high like they have never experienced with any other strain.
Since this strain is believed to have been developed to help people who are going through chemotherapy, it is no surprise that many users find it to be incredible for relief from pain, stress, insomnia, chronic pain, nausea, depression, palliative care and loss of appetite; many of the symptoms associated with chemotherapy.
Many users state that Chemo Kush also helps alleviate the symptoms associated with opiate and alcohol withdrawal.
Beginners need to be extremely careful when it comes to trying Chemo Kush for the first time as it is known to leave many people feeling incapacitated, sedated and “couch locked.” Chemo Kush also has a reputation of being what is referred to as a “creeper strain.” This means that you will not necessarily feel the full effects of this strain for up to an hour, when smoked or vaporized. Many beginners may find themselves overindulging long before the effects of Chemo Kush have a chance to fully kick in so be careful with dosing.
While a few people have stated that they have experienced a slight cerebral high, it is very uncommon. Most people say that Chemo Kush is one strain that will knock you off your feet leaving you couch locked before you know it.
The commonly reported adverse effects of Chemo Kush include dry mouth and dry eyes. Paranoia, anxiety and occasional headaches or dizziness can result from overconsumption of this strain. Keep in mind that this strain was designed to help cancer patients increase their appetites so you can expect to feel very relaxed but also very hungry.
Many users also say that Chemo Kush should be consumed primarily during evening hours, or right before bed, as it will put you to sleep very quickly.
With its exceptional THC content, it is easy to see why you would not want to try this strain during the daytime if you need to be productive or focused. If you are new to using cannabis, make certain that you take the time to prepare for your first experience with Chemo Kush properly. It is a smart idea when trying this strain for the first time to make certain that you have everything you will need close by and give this strain a chance during evening hours.
Chemo Kush has a very pungent aroma that smells of pine needles and earthiness. Chemo Kush has a unique woodsy flavor to it when smoked and some people say that it reminds them of mushrooms or cheese.
If you are considering trying to grow Chemo Kush on your own, be warned that it is often considered to be a difficult strain for novice growers and can be very challenging to acquire seeds or clones outside of British Columbia. If you have experience growing cannabis Chemo Kush can be grown both indoors or outdoors. When grown indoors, you can expect a harvest of 18-28 oz/㎡ after 7 to 8 weeks of flowering depending on the growth medium used. Outdoor harvests will be ready early to mid October and you can expect yields of around 24 oz/plant.
