Rumour has it this strain was a secret government project to create the strongest cannabis strain in the world! While the effects certainly do lend themselves to this hypothesis, you have to ask yourself, what is more likely, the government doing something successfully and giving it away for free? Or someone who grew something as potent as G13 making up a hyperbolic backstory to explain the wunder-bud they made?
The origins of G13 have been lost to time, but industry lore holds that this strain was a government project that was created by gathering the most potent Indicas of the late 60’s to early 70’s.
While the truth of this is clouded by both time and a haze of cannabis smoke, what is certain is that the modern G13 strain is not the 100% Indica strain that it was at the beginning of its life. The G13 we have now is an amazingly powerful strain that is a classic embodiment of what an “Indica Dominant Hybrid” strain can offer.
The THC content of the G13 strain can be anywhere between 17-24%, which was unheard of for a cannabis strain at the time of its original cultivation. The original G13 most likely had a much lower THC content than the modern strain and since its birth in the 60’s it has been cross bred many times over. After successive generations of selective cultivation for particular characteristics and phenotypes, G13 became the strain it is today.
The CBD content of G13 averages around 1%.
Medical patients can find plenty of ways to help relieve the symptoms of their ailments with G13. The heavy Indica effects lend themselves to help treat chronic pain and insomnia. This strain also promotes feelings of euphoria and has cheerful mood boosting effects that can help alleviate depression and other mood disorders that can affect your emotional state. G13 can also help to treat inflammation, headaches, migraines, nausea and lack of appetite.
G13 is best left to afternoon or evening and night time use as its sedative nature can be overwhelming for people who are used to Sativa or Hybrid strains.
G13 provides a strong full body relaxation and the balance of the experience is tipped in favour of the Indica genetics. The body high evolves into a sedative couch lock as the experience continues, however the Sativa effects also expand into a more focused and creative cerebral effect.
Dry mouth and dry eyes are the most notable side effects of G13, however paranoia, headaches and dizziness have been reported as well but these negative effects are usually linked to overconsumption of THC.
The aroma profile of G13 expresses a pungent earthy scent that is skunky, followed by a subtle scent of sweet berries.
The flavour profile of G13 starts with earthen notes that manifest into a piney and woody taste. The berry scent from the aroma fades but the sweetness remains on your tongue.
G13 is a medium height strain that grows bushy and needs proper spacing and manicuring. It has a high resistance to diseases like mold and mildew but you should have experience growing cannabis before trying to grow G13. A ridiculous yield on outdoor grows as high as 40oz/plant have been reported, while indoor harvests can expect 20 oz/㎡. Outdoor harvests will be ready between the end of October and the middle of November and G13 excels in dry sunny climates.
