Panama Red is a shining example of landrace genetics that have remained almost unchanged since it was first cultivated in Central America. Panama Red has a low to medium THC content, with a unique terpene profile and produces an energetic and clear headed experience.
Little is known about how Panama Red found its way onto the cannabis scene of North America but we do know that this strain is originally from the Panama region of Central America. Panama Red first gained popularity back in the 1960’s and was widely loved in the recreational cannabis community until the 1990’s when high level THC strains began to dominate the market.
The THC content of Panama Red is low to medium and reflects its landrace roots, measuring between 10%-16% THC on average. Those same landrace roots are what leaves this strain with an average 0% CBD content.
This 100% Sativa strain has been reported by medical cannabis patients to help treat anxiety, depression, PTSD, back and muscle pain, migraines, epilepsy and fibromyalgia.
Providing a mellow cerebral high that is euphoric and energetic, this strain is a classic Sativa and a unique landrace. Panama Red stimulates the user’s mind and provides an uplifting boost of creativity, while the stone terminates in a relatively relaxed body stone.
Common adverse effects of Panama Red include dry eyes and dry mouth, while paranoia, headaches, and dizziness are typically symptoms of overconsumption. These potential negative effects can be mitigated by slowly consuming this strain and making sure not to over-indulge.
Panama Red gives off an interesting combination of earthy and fruity aromas. The strain’s overall fragrance has an earhiness that is highlighted by fruity tropical scents and the citrus aroma of grapefruit.
To complement its happy high, users are rewarded with a delicious concoction of flavors that can be described as herbal and spicy in nature, with some intriguing notes of tropical fruits reminiscent of sweet citrus and grapefruit.
Some experience is recommended when growing Panama Red but as a landrace strain the yields are less than impressive. Indoor harvests will be ready after 11-12 weeks of flowering and you can expect 12-16oz/m². Outdoor harvests are ready by late October and will produce 16 oz/plant or more. Panama Red prefers a warm tropical or subtropical climate similar to the Central American environments that it originated in.
