Cannabis Gummies

This is a simple and tasty recipe that can save you a ton of money.

cannabis gummies You only need a few ingredients and some basic pieces of equipment to make these delicious medicated cannabis gummies.

Preparation Time: 5 - 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 - 20 minutes

Cool Down: 30 to 60 minutes

Total Time: 45 - 90 minutes

Difficulty Level: Moderate to Difficult

Equipment

  • Small glass mixing dish (a large shot glass works well)
  • Medium sized saucepan
  • Plastic spatula
  • Parchment paper/Wax paper
  • Turkey baster or something similar in nature
  • Cookie sheet
  • 0.01 scale is preferred to make sure you weigh everything to the EXACT specifications. Otherwise use a 0.1 scale.
  • Calculator
  • Moulds. You can buy these at most baking stores or places like Bulk Barn or Amazon. We suggest finding a mould that provides 10 to 15 uniform shapes.

Once you have all of this equipment you can make medicated gummies for years. We suggest that you spend the money and the time to obtain the correct equipment set up so the process is easier and more consistent now and in the future.

Ingredients

cannabis gummies

This recipe will make 30 gummies that weigh 13.5 to 14 grams each.

You can scale this recipe up as much as you want but we suggest doing small fresh batches. Also we suggest not doing a batch any smaller than the one above

DO NOT MAKE EDIBLES IF YOU CAN’T USE A SCALE OR EASILY FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS!

Directions

  1. cannabis gummies Add one cup of cold distilled or filtered water to the saucepan. You can mix all of the ingredients in the saucepan, making life very easy and cleanup very quick.

  2. Add the gelatin to the water in the saucepan. Allow the gelatin to “bloom” by letting it dissolve in the cold water. You can use a spatula to mix the gelatin gently after the majority of the mixture has “bloomed.”

DO NOT USE A WHISK because it will add too much air to the mixture making it very frothy and hard to work with.

  3. Once the gelatin has “bloomed” add 2 packages of Jello.

You can add 2 tablespoons of Citric Acid (you can usually find this at a health food store) to the Jello and gelatin mixture before you heat it on the stovetop to increase the shelf life of the gummies. Citric Acid is a natural preservative and it will add a bit of sourness to the gummies. If you add more than 4 tablespoons you will definitely be able to notice the sourness.
  4. Now use your spatula to mix in the Jello with the “bloomed” gelatin. Use the spatula gently to ensure you do not mix in too much air. There will always be a bit of froth from the air that is getting added when you are mixing the mixture so do not worry.

  5. Once the Jello and the gelatin mixture are gently mixed together in the saucepan put it on the stove top burner and turn it to low/medium heat (level 3 or 4). Allow the mixture to heat slowly and emulsify. Use your spatula to gently blend the mixture so it does not burn but only when necessary. Do not let the mixture get too hot … if this happens the candy liquid will burn and you will need to start again. Slow and steady wins the race.

  6. Allow the mixture to cook for 10 minutes. Mixing as needed. The less mixing the better because there will be less air/froth. The less froth the better.

  7. Now the mixture should be fully emulsified. There should be no sign of gelatin gel or bubbles. Everything should be the same consistency and colour other than the top froth which should be minimal. Remove this top froth by skimming it off with your spatula or with a large spoon. Try to remove as much as possible. It is ok if there is a small amount of froth left on the top.

  8. Once the majority of the froth is removed it is time to add your RSO (1 gram) or the decarbed concentrate of your choice. You can either add this straight into the saucepan with the hot candy liquid or you can mix it (use a small Pyrex bowl or shot glass) with 5 grams of MCT oil or coconut oil.

Make sure the MCT oil is heated using a double boiler system before you add the RSO. This will allow the RSO to fully emulsify quickly. This mixture will also help bind the cannabis compounds to the candy liquid more easily. This step is not necessary but we do suggest it to get the best results and to waste the least amount of RSO.

  9. Allow the RSO mixture to melt into the candy solution while gently stirring with your spatula. Do this for 7 to 10 minutes. Ensure the temperature does not get too hot or the mixture will boil and burn. Again do not allow too much air to be mixed into or you will get more froth!

  10. Now there should be little froth on the top layer and all of the ingredients will be fully emulsified with one another.

  11. Place your clean molds on the cookie sheet and ensure it is placed on a flat and even surface.

  12. Remove the saucepan from the stove top and place it (use a pot holder if necessary) next to the cookie sheet with your moulds.

  13. Take out your turkey baster (take air out of it first by pressing down on the pump area) and place it in the saucepan open end down. Draw up the liquid that is below the top froth layer (if there is one), remove the turkey baster and inject the moulds with the hot cannabis candy liquid. Continue to do this until all of the moulds are filled. Ensure all the moulds are filled to the top of the mould so they all weigh the same.

This recipe, especially this part of the recipe, takes practice and you may want to do a test batch without using a cannabis concentrate just in case you make a mistake.

  14. Once all of the moulds are filled, you can now put the cookie sheet(s) in the freezer so the gummies can set. Leave them in the freezer for 30 to 60 minutes (setting time will depend on the thickness of your mould) and ensure nothing touches them.

Make a clean space in the freezer for the cookie sheet before you get started with the recipe.

  15. Remove the cookie sheet from the freezer and pop out the gummies on a sheet of wax paper.

  16. The Gummies are ready to eat … once you do THE MATH!

We suggest storing the gummies in the fridge or freezer to keep them from spoiling or from hardening, typically the high sugar content will keep these gummies preserved for at least 30 days if kept in the fridge or freezer.

The Math

cannabis gummies

Do the math correctly and you will set yourself up for success.

You need to seriously manage your cannabis concentrate while making edibles in order to produce edibles with consistent doses. Managing your cannabis concentrate will allow you to manage the psychoactive cannabinoid THC. You will want to manage high CBD cannabis concentrates the same way as the THC in this recipe/process.

Below is an example of how to do the MATH to find out how much THC is in each batch and each edible:

  1. 1 gram RSO = 1000 mg RSO

  2. 1000 mg RSO x 75% (the THC potency of the RSO) = 750 mg of THC

  3. Weigh each gummy. There should not be too much of a variance. We suggest no more than 0.2 grams variance. Be particular. It will pay off.

  4. Our 30 gummies weighed a total of 412.5 grams or an average weight of 13.75 grams

  5. Now find the total mg of THC in each gummy by using this formula:

Total mg THC/Total number of Gummies = THC per Gummy

750 mg THC/30 Gummies = 25 mg of THC per Gummy

Congratulations you have just made delicious medicated cannabis gummies that are now ready to eat!

What about the other Cannabinoids?

cannabis gummies 05If you are interested in knowing what the mg of other cannabinoids are, then use the same formula as above,  just exchange THC with the other cannabinoid.

For example, if you wanted to know how many mg of CBD there were in your gummies than you would use this formula:

CBD% mg RSO = Total mg of CBD

Total mg CBD/Total number of Gummies = mg of CBD per Gummy

For example:

10% CBD x1000 mg RSO = 100 mg CBD

100 mg CBD/30 Gummies = 3.33 mg of CBD per Gummy

In this scenario, combined with the original THC formula above, would provide a Gummy that had 25 mg of THC and 3.33 mg of CBD.

The THC to CBD ratio would be 7.5 to 1.
